Receipt Printer
Tolltex fabricates receipt printers using components available in the US. The printer uses the latest in thermal print technology, which produces very high quality receipts at a very fast rate. The printers are enclosed in a stainless steel cabinet with a hinged top that lifts open to load the 6-inch diameter roll of paper. Receipts are issued through a slot located in the front of the enclosure and an automatic cutter is used to cut the receipt to the proper length. The life of the cutter is more than 1 million receipts. A uniquely designed paper chute holds the paper in place after it has been cut.
The paper is fed through the print mechanism by rollers. Since the paper is pulled from the roll in a straight path, there are very few reasons for paper jams to occur. Both automatic and manual paper loading methods are available. In the automatic mode, the paper edge is simply slid into the leading edge of the paper transport where it is "grabbed" and automatically pulled into the print position. In manual mode, the paper is inserted into the leading edge of the paper transport and manually pushed into position. "Feed" and "Test" buttons are available to verify the operation of the printer.
The printer communicates to the lane controller by a serial communication link (RS-232 or RS-422). Status messages such as paper jam, or no paper are sensed and messages can be forwarded to the plaza computer where the status is displayed to the supervisor.
Typical receipts can be printed in 3 seconds and the paper used is thermal type, 21-pound basis weight with the coated side facing inwards on the roll. A single roll of paper will produce approximately 1,100 receipts. Double height, double width character printing allows test such as THANK YOU to be highlighted on the receipt.

Tolltex has supplied over 160 of these printers to the Harris County Toll Road Authority located in Houston, Texas and for our India Toll Collection System. A partial shipment of completed units in our assembly area is shown here. Visible are the gasketed hinged tops and sample receipts that are generated as part of the testing conducted for each unit prior to delivery. A 3-point support bracket holds the tops in the open position.
